Budweiser vs. Miller
The companies I have chosen to talk about is Budweiser and Miller Lite. Of course Budweiser in my eyes are the top dog and Miller is the under dog. Growing up I watched numerous sporting events and Budweiser was the one beer advertisements I remember seeing when watching those games. As I grew older I recall seeing ads involving Miller Lite and seeing them as the little brother to Budweiser. I felt like in the early days of brand marketing Budweiser had an upper hand because consumers knew about them and those of drinking age saw that brand when they went to bars and restaurants and of course sporting events. Miller brand of beers was in those same places but consumers weren’t to familiar with their product. I think Miller was kind of scattered and didn’t really have a true stream line for their marketing to keep up with Budweiser.
I think in order for Miller to become the top dog over Budweiser they need to put their brand out their as a great tasting product. Miller needs to show consumers what is in their beers that make their beers so much better than its competitors. For instance I know one thing when I see a Miller ad is that they are always talking about the amount of calories their beer has compared to other beer companies. With a lot of people being health conscious then showing them that you can make a product that has great taste but easy on the belt you may see an increase in sales. One way Budweiser gets ahead is because of the amount of wealth they have , they have bought up several smaller beer companies to strengthen their grip on the beer world. Miller could look into buying up more companies to show their power, but you wouldn’t want to come across as the bully and trying to monopolize the industry. Instead Miller could team up with smaller breweries and do some collaborations with them to show that they aren’t trying to put them out of business. A final point that I think Miller could do is not go on the defense and put slander against their competitors in ads, but Talk about the great taste of their product and show the confidence that if people try it they wont be disappointed.
I think that consumers go towards the top dog is because they are more familiar with growing up and seeing ads or maybe even a family member that drank Budweiser. I mean I had an uncle that loved Budweiser and even named his dog Bud after his favorite beer. I just think people get comfortable and get in a routine and don’t want to change it up by trying a new beer like Miller. But in my eyes when I was of age and in college I would drink Bud Light a beer produced by Budweiser. I drank it because it was cheap and always had deals on it at the college bars. As I grew older Bud Light wasn’t as appealing to me anymore and I made the switch the Miller Lite and that is my sitting in the garage beer or lake beer. The only time I drink a Budweiser product is when its free haha. So I guess I go for the underdog at the end of the day.
